Radio Active! to perform at St. Marys

MADISON -- Did you ever sit glued to the radio on a Sunday afternoon? Would you like to relive simpler times?

All are invited to a "Radio Active!" performance of "The Shadow" and "Fibber McGee and Molly" on Saturday, April 17, at 12:30 p.m. at St. Marys Hospital Assembly Hall, 707 S. Mills St. Sponsored by St. Marys Auxiliary, the program will be performed by a Madison community theater group called "Radio Active!"

"Radio Active!" was formed in 1998 with the desire to entertain and enrich the public using America's unique radio heritage. The theater troupe offers a glimpse into a by-gone era of American pop culture by re-creating the sights and sounds of a broadcast studio during radio's prime.

Parking is free and dessert will be served. Tickets are $5 per person and may be purchased at Rose Marie Gift Shop or by calling the Volunteer Service Department at 608-258-6640.


Gospel concert

MADISON -- Edgewood College will present a free gospel concert on Saturday, April 3, at 2:30 p.m.

The concert will feature Madison's Mount Zion Baptist Choir, Fountain of Life Praise Team and Choir, vocal soloist Carolyn Cunningham, and saxophonist J.W. Davis, at St. Joseph Chapel, Edgewood College.

Play at Edgewood

MADISON -- The Edgewood College Black Student Union will present the Obie Award-winning play for colored girls who have considered suicide / when the rainbow is not enuf by Ntozake Shange on Tuesday, April 13, and Wednesday, April 14, at 7 p.m.

The performance will be held in Anderson Auditorium, Predolin Humanities Center, Edgewood College. Donations are requested.

Polish Heritage Club

MONONA -- The Polish Heritage Club of Wisconsin will hold its annual spring festival and bake sale on Sunday, April 4, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Marion Hall at Immaculate Heart of Mary School, 4913 Schofield St.

A Palm Sunday tradition for the last 24 years, the festival will feature live music as well as the sale of traditional Polish baked goods, kielbasa, pierogi, books, imported craft goods, and Polish artistic glassware.

There will be a display of colorful Polish Easter eggs and baskets, a demonstration of Polish Easter egg painting (pisanki), and a children's activity table.

The public is invited to attend and celebrate Polish Easter traditions with the Madison area's Polish-American community. Free parking is available on site. The Polish Heritage Club will furnish coffee and fruit punch.

Sunday Afternoon Live

MADISON -- Sunday Afternoon Live from the Elvehjem welcomes the Pro Arte Quartet, on Sunday, April 4, at 12:30 p.m. in Brittingham Gallery III at the Elvehjem Museum of Art.

Violinists David Perry and Suzanne Beia, violinist Sally Chisholm, and cellist Parry Karp will present a program of string quartets.

The program, hosted by Lori Skelton, is broadcast live on Wisconsin Public Radio stations, including WERN, 88.7, Madison.


Bloomington play rescheduled

BLOOMINGTON -- Due to unforeseen circumstances, the St. Mary's Parish Players of Bloomington presentation of the comedy The Shame of Tombstone, originally scheduled for March 26-28, has been rescheduled for May 7, 8, and 9 in St. Mary School gym.

Sunday, April 4, 8 p.m., WKOW (ABC) -- The Ten Commandments (1956). Less an inspirational story based on biblical sources than a dramatic vehicle with a sense of history, director Cecil B. DeMille's epic production offers some spectacular re-creations, excellent technical effects, and good acting from a fine cast. The USCCB Office for Film & Broadcasting classification of the theatrical version was A-I - general patronage. The Motion Picture Association of America rating was G - general audiences.

Sunday, April 4, 8:30 p.m., WYOU (cable) -- Christopher Close-Up: "Golden Anniversary, Part One." A celebration of 50 years of Christopher television, including clips with Bing Crosby, Jack Benny, Mario Lanza, Dorothy Day, and more.

Tuesday, April 6, 5:30 p.m., EWTN (cable) -- St. Peter: Icon for Lent. Archbishop Timothy M. Dolan of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee gives a meditation upon the Gospel readings for each Sunday of Lent and Holy Week, centering on St. Peter as a model for Christian discipleship and delineating ways of deepening our relationship with God. Repeats 10 a.m. April 10.

Tuesday, April 6, 7 p.m., WHA (PBS) -- Teen Connection: "Teens and Bullying." This program talks with teens and adult interveners about bullying, which crosses all socio-economic lines and occurs most frequently in middle school and junior high.
