MADISON -- Frannie Ruth, member of the Cathedral Parish in Madison, recently won the Daughters of the American Revolution/National Italian American Foundation Christopher Columbus essay writing contest at the chapter and state level.

She read her essay at the DAR State Convention in May in Stevens Point.

She was treated to lunch and received a $50 check.

The topic of the essay was “How Did the Faith and Courage of Christopher Columbus Give to Mankind a New World?”

In the essay, Frannie was able to share the Catholic faith by focusing on Columbus’s prayer life and his desire to spread the faith.
