Students achieve goal in Pocket Change for Love Print

SAUK CITY -- Pocket Change for Love started with a class discussion about overcoming obstacles. The students at St. Aloysius School in Sauk City were preparing to write speeches for the Optimism Oratorical Contest. The theme was “How My Optimism Helps Me Overcome Obstacles.” The students quickly realized that there were people with bigger obstacles than theirs, and they wanted to do something to help.

A huge bowl was set up for students to fill with pocket change. To fill the bowl became a Lenten project of almsgiving. Principal John Brennan provided an extra incentive — if the students filled the bowl, he would face the whole school, staff, and interested parents in a dodgeball game, with his position on the school roof. (He’s hoping Tim Schott, maintenance man, and Pastor Fr. Jared Hood will join his team.)

The students did it! The bowl was filled. The total raised was $287.85, and was donated to the St. Vincent de Paul Store, the Sauk Prairie Food Pantry, and the Good Neighbor Clinic. The Rooftop Dodgeball Game will be held Friday, May 11 at 1:30 p.m.
