Personhood campaign seeks to extend protection to preborn children Print
Letters to the editor

To the editor:

Personhood is the fundamental civil rights issue of our time. The pro-life movement is founded on the bedrock principle that all human beings, at all stages of development, deserve full protection under the law.

Our nation’s history of civil rights progress has been fueled by this principle. But one injustice remains: the legal discrimination against pre-born babies, who can be freely mutilated and killed throughout all nine months of pregnancy.

The Wisconsin Personhood campaign seeks to pass an amendment to the state constitution legally recognizing that all preborn human beings are “persons” whose unalienable right to life is protected by the state.

Reintroduced in August by State Representative Andre Jacque (R-Green Bay), the Wisconsin Personhood Amendment extends the unalienable right to life already found in the Wisconsin Constitution to all preborn children from the beginning of their lives.

The amendment seeks to end abortion in Wisconsin, not to regulate or restrict it. It seeks to end all violence toward preborn children — surgical, chemical, experimental, etc. — at all stages of development. It is the most powerful piece of pro-life legislation ever introduced in the state of Wisconsin.

Wisconsinites are being asked to contact their state legislators and urge them to pass the amendment, while Pro-Life Wisconsin’s lobbyist Matt Sande is working the halls of our State Capitol to move the bill forward.

This amendment also provides a unique educational opportunity. No longer will Planned Parenthood be able to define the terms of debate using euphemisms like “choice” or “reproductive health care.” Instead, we’re making it clear that a pre-born baby is a person, endowed by her creator with the unalienable right to life!
