HAZEL GREEN — Fr. Raymond Edward Runde died on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013, at the age of 83 at the Stoughton Hospital, Stoughton.

He was born on April 19, 1930 in Cuba City, Wisconsin and is predeceased by his parents, Martin C. and Mary [Cullen] Runde, his brother James Runde, and sister Adele [Runde] Budden.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 2630 N. Main St., Hazel Green, on Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, at 11:30 a.m. Bishop Robert C. Morlino of Madison will be the celebrant with Fr. Kenneth Klink as homilist.

Visitation will be held at Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 123 N. Jackson St, Cuba City, on Sunday, Nov. 17, from 2 until 7 p.m., with a parish wake service at 1:45 p.m., and on Monday, Nov. 18, from 9:30 until 11:15 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Church.

Interment at St. Joseph Parish Cemetery, 780 Cty. Hwy. Z, Sinsinawa, will be immediately after Mass, with Fr. Kenneth Frisch, pastor, presiding at the Rite of Committal, followed by a luncheon served in the St. Joseph School cafeteria.

After attending St. Joseph Grade School in Sinsinawa, Father Runde attended high school at Loras Academy in Dubuque, Iowa, where he completed his collegiate studies in philosophy at Loras College. He continued his studies at The Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C., where he obtained his S.T.L. in theology followed by graduate studies at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where he earned his master's degree, and studies at The Catholic University of America, where he earned his Ph.D.

He was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop William P. O’Connor on May 25, 1956, at St. Raphael Cathedral, Madison.

Father Runde served the Diocese of Madison as assistant chaplain at St. Coletta School in Jefferson. He then served as pastor at St. Mary of Lourdes Parish, Belleville, with the mission of St. James Parish, Dayton, and St. Mary Help of Christians Parish, Briggsville.

He served on the faculty at St. Mary’s College, South Bend, Ind., and was involved in the counseling profession prior to his taking a medical leave of absence, which led to his retirement.

During his years of service to the Diocese of Madison, Father Runde served as a member of the Marriage Encounter Team for 14 years.

Survivors include two brothers, Emmett "Smokey" Runde and Eugene "Gene" Runde, both of Cuba City, and a sister, Myrtle Blankheim, Madison.
