SUN PRAIRIE -- A community open house and blessing was held June 25 for the new St. Mary's Sun Prairie Emergency Center, which opened its doors July 1. The open house gave attendees an inside look at the new building, as well as a firsthand experience of the drama of an emergency center.

The 13,500-square-foot center, located at the intersection of Hwy. 151 and Reiner Rd. and visible from the highway, has 10 treatment rooms, including a firetruck-themed room for pediatric patients; fully board certified/board prepared physicians; fully certified emergency nurses; a helipad for transport to Madison hospitals; and an InstyMeds machine (a 24-hour prescription vending machine).

The 24-hour emergency center also features a CT scanner, Glidescope (allowing physicians to intubate patients with a direct view of their vocal cords), a full service lab, and additional medical imaging equipment for diagnosis and treatment.

St. Mary's Sun Prairie Emergency Center, a satellite to St. Mary's Hospital in Madison, is owned and operated by SSM Health Care of Wisconsin, part of St. Louis-based SSM Health Care, sponsored by the Franciscan Sisters of Mary.
