MADISON -- The Diocese of Madison's Office of Worship is offering a number of workshops.

Praying the Mass with Abbot Rooney

"Praying the Mass" is a series which will explore the Mass with Abbot Marcel Rooney, OSB, former abbot primate of the Benedictine Order and an advisor to popes. Abbot Rooney will discuss some history of the Mass and reflect upon how we can pray the Mass rather than simply pray at Mass.

People are invited to attend one session or all five.

All sessions are free. A voluntary offering will be taken. All sessions are held at Holy Name Heights, 702 S. High Point Rd. in Madison

The sessions include:

• An Introduction to Praying the Mass -- Saturday, Sept. 23, 9 to 11 a.m.

• Praying the Introductory Rites & Liturgy of the Word (1) -- Saturday, Nov. 4, 9 to 11 a.m.

• Praying the Liturgies of the Word (2) & Eucharist (1) -- Saturday, Jan. 20, 9 to 11 a.m. Snow date: Jan. 27.

• Praying the Liturgy of the Eucharist (2) -- Saturday, Feb. 10, 9 to 11 a.m. Snow date: Feb. 17.

• Praying the Mass instead of Praying at Mass -- Saturday, April 7, 9 to 11 a.m.

Extraordinary ministers of Communion

The Office of Worship is also offering workshops for extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion this fall. The workshop schedule includes:

• Tuesday, Sept. 26 -- from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Parish, 221 Columbus St. in Sun Prairie.

• Thursday, Oct. 19 -- from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, 602 Everglade Dr. in Madison.

• Wednesday, Oct. 25 -- from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at St. Christopher Parish (at St. Andrew Church), 301 N. Main St. in Verona.

People should register at least one week prior to the workshop.
