The history of the apparition of Our Lady of Guadalupe and its impact on the Mexican people. (TV-Y -- all children) EWTN (cable)

King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword ( 9:10 pm - 11:20 pm )

(2017) Ponderous action fantasy in which, once grown, the monarch of the title (Charlie Hunnam) who was dispossessed of his rights as a child and raised as a brawling street urchin by the inhabitants of a London brothel, uses Excalibur to battle the evil uncle (Jude Law) who long ago usurped his throne. Together with his script collaborators, Joby Harold and Lionel Wigram, director and co-writer Guy Ritchie works the occasional witty exchange into the dialogue. But otherwise his film is a grueling ordeal of nonstop noisy fighting. Possibly acceptable for mature teens. Pervasive combat and other violence with little blood, a prostitution theme, brief partial nudity, fleeting sexual humor, at least one rough term, occasional crass language. (A-III – adults) (PG-13 -- parents strongly cautioned) Cinemax (cable)

Signs ( 4:30 pm - 7:00 pm )

(2002) Struggling with loss of faith after the sudden death of his wife, an Episcopal priest (Mel Gibson) fears for the life of his children (Rory Culkin and Abigail Breslin) after he and his brother (Joaquin Phoenix) discover huge circular patterns in his cornfield that suggest an invasion by hostile aliens. Writer-director M. Night Shyamalan masterfully builds dread and tension while touching upon issues of faith. But the lightweight narrative doesn’t provide a powerful punch to match the unnerving apprehension that shapes the film. Some intensely frightening moments and occasional crass expressions. (A-II -- adults and adolescents) (PG-13 -- parents strongly cautioned) AMC (cable)

Baby Driver ( 7:00 pm - 8:55 pm )

(2017) Stylish, high-octane crime drama in which an otherwise decent young man (Ansel Elgort) is forced to serve as the getaway driver in a series of bank robberies to pay off his debt to a callous mobster (Kevin Spacey). As he works with a variety of lowlifes (most prominently Jon Hamm, Eiza Gonzalez and Jamie Foxx) to pull off the heists, the better part of his nature is expressed in the care he gives his deaf and ailing foster father (CJ Jones) and in his romance with a sprightly diner waitress (Lily James). Writer-director Edgar Wright earns his paycheck with a film carefully choreographed down to the last gesture, and the basic values at work in his script are sound. Yet, while the central relationship remains chaste, late plot developments involve a quantity of bloodletting that will seem excessive to many moviegoers. Momentary but intense gory violence along with much gunplay, several uses of profanity, frequent rough and crude language. (L -- limited adult audience) (R – restricted) Showtime (cable)

Conrack ( 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm )

(1974) Jon Voight gives a convincingly exuberant performance as the idealistic white teacher who comes to a remote sea island off the coast of South Carolina to teach the island’s black children. The problems he encounters in adjusting to the island’s timeless way of life, in reaching his students with useful knowledge and in dealing with suspicious adults and cranky school officials form the core of an unusual and often moving work. Victoria And Abdul ( 7:00 pm - 8:55 pm )

(2017) Endearing historical drama in which, on the sole basis of being tall and handsome, a 24-year-old prison clerk (Ali Fazal) in Agra, India, is chosen to present a ceremonial coin to Queen Victoria (Judi Dench) during her 1887 golden jubilee. After a four-month journey in the company of a grouchy fellow countryman (Adeel Akhtar), he flouts protocol by making eye contact with the sovereign. Victoria is sufficiently charmed to make him first her servant, then her secretary and finally her instructor in Urdu. But the closer their relationship grows, the more antagonism the royal household, led by the queen’s eldest son and heir, Bertie (Eddie Izzard), unleashes on the newcomer. Director Stephen Frears’ adaptation of Shrabani Basu’s book celebrates friendship, openness, tolerance and respect for those from different backgrounds. Possibly acceptable for older adolescents. A couple of uses of profanity, at least one milder oath, about a half-dozen crude and a pair of crass terms. (A-III – adults) (PG-13 -- parents strongly cautioned) HBO (cable)

Fast & Furious ( 8:50 pm - 10:40 pm )

(2009) Overheated, morally swerving action sequel in which an ex-con (Vin Diesel) pursuing a vendetta and an undercover FBI agent (Paul Walker) renew their rivalry as they both use their driving skills to infiltrate a cross-border drug smuggling ring and identify its secretive leader. As directed by Justin Lin, the thin story is no more than an excuse for long sequences of reckless racing, while the characters move from one side of the law to the other as it suits them. Vigilantism, brief nongraphic sexual activity, partial nudity, cohabitation, occasional rough language and profanity. The Catholic News Service classification of the theatrical version was L -- limited adult audience, films whose problematic content many adults would find troubling. The Motion Picture Association of America rating was PG-13 -- parents strongly cautioned. Some material may be inappropriate for children under 13. Cinemax (cable)

Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows ( 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm )

2011) Sprawling, brawling adventure sequel -- set in 1891 -- in which Robert Downey Jr.’s he-man Holmes and his recently wed sidekick Dr. Watson (Jude Law) battle a conspiracy by evil genius Professor Moriarty (Jared Harris) to destabilize European politics and bring on a general war. The iconic pair is aided in their struggle by a Gypsy fortuneteller (Noomi Rapace) and by Holmes’ bon-vivant older brother (Stephen Fry). Director Guy Ritchie’s second take on the classic detective fiction of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle downplays old-fashioned sleuthing in favor of a constant flow of confrontations, escapades, and escapes. Still, adults with a high degree of tolerance for stylized violence will likely find the proceedings diverting enough. Constant action violence, including a suicide, torture, and some glimpses of gore; partial rear and implied full nudity; fleeting sexual humor; and a few crass terms.  (A-III – adults) (PG-13 -- parents strongly cautioned) AMC (cable)
