Children's programs
on Public Television

MADISON -- Beginning on Monday, Jan. 19, Wisconsin Public Television (WPT) will offer a new program designed for three to six-year-olds and bring back a favorite children's animated program.

Boobah will air at 11:30 a.m. weekdays. The Boobahs are five large, sparkling, furry creatures with expressive eyes that are meant to embody children's playful energy and fun. They interact with adults and children in the program to inspire physical and cognitive development.

The program has been created by the makers of Teletubbies, which has a proven record of connecting with and positively affecting children.

Also returning to the schedule is George Shrinks, built off the book of the same name by author William Joyce. The series explores the challenges faced by a young boy only inches high and his normal-sized parents and baby brother.

Sunday Afternoon Live

MADISON -- Sunday Afternoon Live from the Elvehjem welcomes pianist Namji Kim on Sunday, Jan. 18, at 12:30 p.m. in Brittingham Gallery III at the Elvehjem Museum of Art.

Kim is a faculty member at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and has performed as a soloist with orchestras around the world.

There will be a reception after the performance; a free docent-led tour of the Elvehjem Museum begins at 2 p.m.

Sunday Afternoon Live from the Elvehjem is a free weekly chamber music series presented by the Elvehjem Museum of Art and Wisconsin Public Radio, with the cooperation of the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Music.

The series, hosted by music commentator Lori Skelton, is broadcast live on Wisconsin Public Radio stations, including WERN, 88.7, Madison.

Program discusses Alzheimer's disease

MADISON -- Across the country, five million people are diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease that robs a person of their life - first their memories, then their physical well-being.

Thousands of those afflicted live in Wisconsin, along with their families who bear an emotional burden, and in some cases, the challenge of being primary caregivers.

Wisconsin Public Television (WPT) will look at some families and their experiences when it airs a nationally produced program, The Forgetting: A Portrait of Alzheimer's, at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21.

A half-hour program, hosted by WPT journalist Patty Loew, will follow the 90-minute national program.

Loew will host a panel of experts to delve into the following: when to go for testing, how to live with dignity and sanity, how to plan ahead, and where to go for more information and support.

During the broadcast, viewers also may call 800-348-9529 for more information and referrals in their area of the state.
