Dinner theatre at St. Bernard, Madison

MADISON -- A dinner theatre presentation of Remembering the 20's with the Saint Bernard Players will be held on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, Aug. 29, 30, and 31, at St. Bernard Church.

The Aug. 29 and 30 dinner shows will begin with cocktails at 5:45 followed by dinner at 6:15 and the show at 7. Cost is $12 for adults and $9 for children 12 and under.

The Aug. 31 family matinee will begin with lunch at 11:15 a.m. followed by the show at 11:45. Ticket prices of $8 for adults and $6 for children 12 and under include pizza, soda, and program.

Theater Bus trips

MADISON -- Theater Bus for people over 60 will travel to three locations in September.

Edgewood College will present Spitfire Grill, a musical set in Wisconsin, preceded by dinner at the college on Saturday, Sept. 6. Cost is $32.

Visit the fabulous home of Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne in Genesse Depot on Friday, Sept. 12. Lunch will be at Millie's Restaurant in Delavan. Cost is $57.

A trip to Appleton to see The Silver Foxes, a new variety show featuring a group of women 60 and over, will take place on Thursday, Sept. 25. Lunch will be at Michiel's Restaurant in Appleton. Cost is $53.

Afro-Cuban band at Monona Terrace

MADISON -- The Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center will host Afro-Cuban band Que Flavor as part of the fourth annual Dane Dances series on Thursday, Aug. 22, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Dane Dances is a free community event created to break down racial barriers and bring people of diverse backgrounds together for a night of free entertainment.

Monona Terrace is located at One John Nolen Dr. Parking is available in the Monona Terrace parking ramp for a $3 fee. For more information, call 608-261-4000 or TTY 608-261-4150.

Participants needed for Messiah concert

SINSINAWA -- Do you sing or play an instrument? Would you like to make this a special holiday season? Then consider participating in the annual "Messiah" concert at Sinsinawa Mound.

Old World Wisconsin featured in documentary

MADISON -- A collection of buildings - rough hewn prairie dwellings, well-worn barns, a Greek Revival home, plus others - sit on 600 acres of southeastern Wisconsin gently rolling, glaciated terrain in the Kettle Moraine region near Eagle.

It's the site of Old World Wisconsin and the buildings. Their contents and the people who painstakingly create a world there all have a story to tell, the story of Wisconsin past.

Wisconsin Public Television (WPT) will air a new documentary, Old World Stories, at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, with an encore at 10 p.m. Monday, Sept. 1.

The one-hour program is the latest production for the Wisconsin Collection, the long-term collaboration between WPT and the Wisconsin Historical Society.

Tuesday, Aug. 26, 10 a.m., EWTN (cable) -- Fr. Groeschel: Pilgrimage to the Shrines of Eastern Europe. Father Groeschel and his fellow pilgrims discover the rich faith of the Catholics of Eastern Europe that has come from a history of struggle and oppression. In this episode, Father Groeschel and the pilgrims travel to The Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa in Poland. Repeats 5:30 p.m. Aug. 26.

Tuesday, Aug. 26, 9 p.m., WHA (PBS) -- Secrets of the Dead: "Titanic's Ghosts." Follow the cutting-edge forensic techniques of Dr. Ryan Parr and a team of scientists who attempt to identify 43 bodies from the Titanic disaster that have lain in unmarked graves in Nova Scotia for the past 90 years.

Wednesday, Aug. 27, 7 p.m., WHA (PBS) -- Great Performances: "Berlin Philharmonic Europakonzert: From Palermo." Performed in a different European city each year, the incomparable Berlin Philharmonic's annual "Europakonzert" commemorates the orchestra's 1882 founding while celebrating the cultural life of the European community. From the elegant Teatro Massimo opera house in Palermo, Sicily, the 2002 concert features sensational violinist Gil Shaham joining conductor Claudio Abbado in a performance of Johannes Brahms' Violin Concerto, Op. 77. Also featured on the program is one of the most beloved works in the symphonic repertoire, Antonin Dvorak's Symphony No. 9, "From the New World," as well as the dramatic overture to Giuseppe Verdi's "Sicilian Vespers." And leaving the opera house on an intermission stroll, Great Performances offers viewers a tour of Palermo, showcasing the architecture, lively markets, and musical heritage that have made it one of Italy's most vibrant cities.

Wednesday, Aug. 27, 3:30 a.m., EWTN (cable) -- Get a Life in Christ: "Augustine the Convert." Fr. Benedict Groeschel introduces the viewer to his teacher of over 50 years - St. Augustine. This preeminent Father of the Church left over five million published words ranging from history and philosophy to scriptural commentary and mystical writings. Father Groeschel is the viewer's guide in this three-part series on St. Augustine's works as he invites the viewer to climb the heights of the Augustinian Alps with him. Repeats 5 p.m.

Wednesday, Aug. 27, 9 p.m., WHA (PBS) -- Milwaukee Symphony Pops: "Doc With A Latin Beat." Doc Severinsen, the orchestra, and Doc's special guests serve up a Latin music banquet with songs like "Besame Mucho," "Malaguena," and "Guantanamera."

Thursday, Aug. 28, 7 p.m., WHA (PBS) -- Old World Stories. This WPT documentary visits Old World Wisconsin, a 600-acre living history museum in the Kettle Moraine region. Staff painstakingly use the collected buildings and their contents to tell stories from Finland, Denmark, Norway, Bohemia, and other places. Great care is taken to make all aspects of Old World Wisconsin as authentic as possible.
